Digital (T)wins: Delivering on the Promise of Remote Operations

2020 has accelerated the need for remote operations. What's the right combination of human and artificial intelligence to make it work?

The coronavirus pandemic has forced many industrial companies to adapt to a new reality in which they are forced to operate at half or even lower worker capacity to keep the lights on and operations from being disrupted.

The events of 2020, combined with the constant pressure to operate with reduced costs, has further accelerated the need to deliver on the promise of remote operations. Moreover, this year is challenging industrial companies to augment human expertise with artificial intelligence and advance human-machine collaboration.

In this session, we’ll look at how technology, specifically intelligent digital twins, can deliver on the vision of unmanned platforms and installations. We will discuss opportunities and challenges presented by remote operations and learn from industry-leading operators on how they are working with Cognite and using the Cognite Remote application to improve their day-to-day operations.

Farid Akbari is the Functional Lead of the Digital Transformation Upstream team at OMV New Zealand. With over 15 years of international experience in the oil and gas and power industries, he is supporting OMV’s digital journey by driving innovative digital initiatives in the areas of integrity, maintenance, and engineering. Akbari has a master’s degree in renewable energy systems from the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien.

Senior Engineer, Concept Development, Special Projects, Aker BP

Halvard Benjaminsen is a Senior Engineer within Aker BP Concept Development - Special Projects. With more than 25 years of experience from the oil and gas industry, he has extensive knowledge about operating onshore and offshore assets as well as applied experience with the development and implementation of concepts and technology. Benjaminsen has a master’s degree in business administration from Nord University.

Chief Scientist for Advanced Manufacturing, Florida Institute of Technology

Michael Grieves is an internationally renowned expert in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and widely credited with inventing the concept of the digital twin. He currently works at the Florida Institute of Technology, where he helped form the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Innovative Design (CAMID). Grieves has more than four decades of executive and technical experience from global and entrepreneurial technology and manufacturing companies.

Tatiana Moguchaya

VP of Research and Development, Cognite

Tatiana Moguchaya leads Cognite’s work in 3D visualization, computer vision, digital twins, and asset integrity management. She has more than 15 years of professional experience in software engineering, project and program management, strategic leadership, and sales and services. Moguchaya has a master’s degree in computer science from UiT - The Arctic University of Norway at Narvik.
